Queens Green Canopy Book/Exhibition

The Queen’s Green Canopy (QGC), an incredible initiative to mark The Queen’s Jubilee that will see communities, charities, schools, youth groups, councils and landowners planting trees across the four nations. Designed to create a legacy in honour of Her Majesty’s leadership of the Nation, this incredible project will enhance our environment and landscape for generations to come.

As well as inviting the planting of new trees, The QGC will dedicate a UK-wide network of 70 ancient woodlands and 70 ancient trees in honour of her Majesty’s 70 years of reign. This will demonstrate to the wider public the importance of these sites in terms of their natural and social history and ecology. Many of the selected woodlands will also provide a vital source of education for schools and community groups.

At the same time, The QGC will dedicate 70 ancient and veteran trees; this will be the start of a larger project to propagate material from many of the UK’s most important ancient trees, to ensure that their genetic resource is conserved.

These natural wonders deserve our protection, not merely for the sake of combating climate change, but because of the great abundance of life thriving under the ancient canopy, natures Crown Jewels.
